UPDATE!

The British Judo Association (BJA) has a long-standing tradition of recognising and honoring the achievements of its members.
However, there is a significant omission in their current recognition system - the inclusion of historic Dan grades.
These are prestigious ranks that reflect not only technical proficiency but also dedication, discipline, and contribution to the sport.

Historically speaking, many influential figures in British Judo held Dan grades. Their contributions have shaped the sport as we know it today and deserve to be acknowledged formally within the BJA Dan Registry.

We urge the BJA CEO, Andrew Scoular, to revise the Dan Grade Registry policy to include the historic Dan grades in its official registry.
This change would not only honor past judokas but also inspire future generations by showcasing a fuller picture of what can be achieved through dedication to judo.

15th April 2024, the new British Judo Dan Registry was published.

18th April 2024, the BJA responds promising Historic Dan Grades to be included!
