Why this petition matters
Usable Tech for Good
World Usability Day has been organizing events, design awards, speaker series, and more since 2005. We are now ready for the next step: the World Usability Initiative (WUI). Our goal is to connect the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and the User Experience (UX) community and everyone who believes that great design is inclusive and usable by all, to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by establishing World Usability Day as an internationally observed day, listed on the United Nations calendar.
If the UN recognizes usability as a core digital technology value, this will create an awareness of HCI/UX at the policy making level, increase the public engagement with the investment in user experience, potentially lead to a global impact, and let usability do its part for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Why sign the petition?
We need to reduce human error and frustration that results from bad design. We believe a united, coordinated effort is needed to develop reliable, easy-to-use technology to serve people in all aspects of their lives, including education, health, government, privacy, communications, work and entertainment. We must put people at the center of design, beginning with their needs and wants, and resulting in technology that benefits us all.
