Stop open sale of Paracetamol, safeguard mental health
Why this petition matters
Imagine a young person you know
They’re struggling- it might be in school, at home, with friends.
They might have negative thoughts everyday about their body or abilities
Those thoughts are on a loop - they don’t feel anyone understands
They see paracetamol on a shelf in your local sainsburys, tesco, aldi, coop or Waitrose. The need to stop feeling like this is greater than the thought of anything or anyone else - tempting
All we are asking is these supermarkets put them behind the counter - same as cigarettes and alcohol
Please sign and safe a young persons life. I don’t say this because this is hypothetical- I’m a kid’s therapist it happens ALL THE TIME
Urge Supermarkets to Restrict Access to Paracetamol Amid Teen Mental Health Concerns
In a bid to address the rising concerns surrounding teen mental health and the potential misuse of over-the-counter medications, Ashley Costello, a psychotherapist at The Resilient Kid, is calling on supermarkets to reconsider the placement of paracetamol on their shelves.
Costello emphasizes the need for increased responsibility in local communities, particularly when it comes to the sale of painkillers outside of pharmacies. While there are already limits on the quantity of tablets one can purchase, the psychotherapist argues that teens struggling with mental health issues and experiencing suicidal thoughts may exploit the easy accessibility of paracetamol.
"Teens in distress may resort to theft to obtain the quantity they need, putting themselves at risk of overdose before anyone becomes aware of their actions," warns Costello. By placing paracetamol behind the counters, supermarkets could play a crucial role in preventing impulsive and harmful behavior among vulnerable individuals.
