It has become clear over the past few weeks that Robert Malley is out of step with current US policy towards Iran, and therefore, he should be replaced. President Biden voiced strong support for the people's movement in Iran as did Secretary of State Blinken. But Mr. Malley is not in sync with his bosses and continues to demean the Iranian national uprising, already in its fifth week, by downplaying its goal to topple the murderous theocracy ruling Iran.

The outpouring of frustrations ignited by the tragic murder of Mahsa Jina Amini has clearly exploded into a popular uprising in over 160 cities, towns and villages across Iran. Majority of the slogans across the country today call for cleansing the country from the ruling theocrats and their cohorts. Here are a few examples: "death to Khamenei", "the entire regime must go", "death to the rule of the Jurisprudent", "all mullahs should get lost". Although it initially began with women's rights, it has clearly progressed to a call for the eradication of the regime. Mahsa's tragic murder was the last straw.

Yet, Mr. Malley in a string of tweets, claims he has consulted Iranian ngo's and purportedly concludes that the Iranian people's demands are generally about "human rights"! The usual people he consults with are those who are known apologists for the Islamic Republic - the likes of Trita Parsi, Negar Mortazavi, Jamal Abdi, Sheri Hakimi and Shervin Hajiloo, who feed him tainted information. This stance by the US Special Representative for Iran has definite negative implications for the US among the Iranian people who are risking it all to regain their freedom. The demeaning of their movement is injurious to the reputation of the United States of America. It is the wrong signal at this time. The Iranian people look to the US for moral support. In the least, they do not expect their voices and demands to be negated by a high ranking US official.
