Why this petition matters

Started by Iryna PINGUET

Eye floaters are dark disturbances in the vision. They may look like black or gray specks, strings, or cobwebs that drift about when you move your eyes. For many people, this can be a debilitating condition with significant impact on their quality of life: Eye floaters can affect the ability to concentrate, read, drive, work and enjoy outdoor activities. Those experiencing floaters often report symptoms of severe depression and anxiety.

Today eye floaters’ sufferers are often rejected and ignored by the medical community. Floaters are commonly classified as a benign nuisance.

Furthermore, eye floater patients are stuck with two bad option treatments: very risky eye surgery or risky laser treatment (often non effective). Both come with life-altering risks and complications related to vision loss. No treatment exists for young patients.

We are a group of eye floater patients from around the world and we call for urgent decisive actions from the World Health Organization, from international medical and governmental organizations as well as from pharmaceutical industries.

We ask the World Health Organization to recognize eye floaters as a clinical disease within the medical community

We ask the World Health Organisation to establish an action plan during its next special session

We call the World Health Organisation to lead and to coordinate a global effort on scientific research in order to develop a safe and effective cure in the shortest time possible

We ask the international medical, government organizations and the pharmaceutical industries to mobilize efforts on a new cure research and supporting existing projects (VDM, XFloaters, etc.)
