To address the issue of sanitary waste disposal, request that the government play a responsibility to assist people in making the switch by investing in reusable and compostable period products.

The majority of sanitary pads used in our country are made up of 90% plastic. They aren't biodegradable. Decomposition takes 500-800 years. It is estimated that 200 tonnes of sanitary napkin waste are generated daily, with each woman producing approximately 125 kg of menstrual waste during her entire menstrual cycle.

There are some environmentally friendly alternatives, but they have not been successful in becoming mainstream due to a lack of government initiative and awareness 

According to my research, India has about 121 million sanitary pad users, who use 12 billion plastic pads per year, clogging drains, blocking landfills, and contributing to climate change. 

Tax rebates, subsidies must be issued if a tested organic product releases in the market to obtain a significant customer shift

I request that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare:

1) Take initiatives, develop policies, and implement programs to promote and educate menstruators about eco-friendly period products: The government has many policies and drives to provide disposable pads to menstruators across India; if the same is done with eco-friendly period products, a huge problem of sanitary waste disposal will be solved; as of now, many are not even aware of the eco-friendly alternatives, and those who are, simply do not have access.

2) Plan to change the country's sanitary napkin manufacturing protocols and switch to natural and compostable sanitary napkins
 

I urge the finance ministry to: Invest in resources to aid in the replacement of plastic and chemical-containing sanitary period products with compostable and organic sanitary period products.
