Dear Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Mr Rishi Sunak,

A crowd coordinated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) gathered on 27 October 2022, in front of the British embassy in Tehran, Iran, where they burnt the LGBTQ+ Rainbow flag and the British flag.

The flag desecration has caused serious concerns among members of the LGBTQ+ community from Iran and elsewhere. As the Islamic regime's widespread crackdown on protesters and activists continues in Iran, we expect the British government not to remain silent in the face of such a vitriolic attack in front of its embassy.

Considering widely circulated reports that the panicking Iranian regime is seeking UK passports for families of officials fleeing Tehran, we demand that you take urgent and solid action to assure that they cannot seek refuge in Britain and impose sanctions against these individuals and entities.

While Iranian activists and students remain under pressure or in prison, the Islamic regime’s agents٫freely express the regime’s discourse in the British media, academic institutions and think tanks. We call on you to expel these agents and muffle their platforms until freedom of speech is also respected in Iran.

We urge you to condemn this threat against the LGBTQ+ community and summon the Iranian Chargé d'affaires in London, Mehdi Hosseini Matin, and ask for an explanation on why the Rainbow flag was violated.

We also call on the British government to expressly support the human rights of the Iranian LGBTQ+ community at the UN human rights bodies.
