The cost-effective way to stabilise housing affordability across Cornwall and also Britain

The Issue

What on Earth is going wrong with our local communities?

This petition has been revised with effect from 4th March 2025 to update all subscribers about the continued need for this petition.

We, the undersigned, urgently call upon the relevant authorities to take immediate action to bring adequate affordability to local housing markets across Britain, starting with a pilot scheme in the county of Cornwall.

If the housing markets nationally are functioning well, adequate housing at affordable prices should be able to be found by most people in permanent work locally. This is NOT the case currently!

Instead of top-down governance from Westminster in a continuing effort to try and achieve this, it would be far more effective and efficient if all strategic decisions relating to Cornwall, especially local town planning ones, should now be fully devolved, right down to local town and parish communities.

This system worked very well up until the last World War, so it should be rightly restored by our government today and should remain for as long as we are no longer at war another country. Central government has too much on its plate requiring urgent consideration already, and so should devolve the vital work of addressing local issues to the locals.

Restoring such powers is now about 80 years overdue and it is high time we all saw this! Not restoring such powers to all local communities would be an absolute tragedy for society in general.

For a further detailed explanation of the reasons behind this, which are for general discussion and development, please search online for ‘The House Price Solution’. Here, there are proposed remedies for the catastrophic situation facing local working people today.

The government currently determines that to get a debate in Parliament on the issue concerned would require at least 100,000 signatures to be obtained in support of a petition! It's a very high bar but it can be reached. Thanks for your support.
