Why this petition matters

Growing up as a young Nigerian girl, I remember a few times when I had to use a menstrual pad longer than 8 hours so as to avoid exhausting the limited number I have and avoid buying another pack that same month.

While this might not be a regular occurrence for me, it is the reality of many Nigerian girls every month. According to a report by Punch newspaper, over 37 million Nigerian girls cannot afford menstrual hygiene products, this means that these 37 million girls resort to unhealthy ways/products every month when they are menstruating.

Kogi state being a low-income state is not exempted from this issue of period poverty. This is why I am writing this petition, asking Always Ultra, a private company that is into the production of sanitary pads to subsidize menstrual pads for school girls in Kogi state. By doing so, the outrageous prices of menstrual care products would be reduced and more girls will have access to sanitary pads and other menstrual hygiene management products.

If this subsidy is not effected, many girls would continue to be exposed to the risk of infections and diseases which would in the long run affect their academics, self-esteem and future. However signing this petition would mean that you have decided to put a smile on the faces of some, out of over 37 million Nigerian girls.

Create a safe space for a Nigerian girl by signing this petition today!
