The owner of bass pro, Johnny Morris has bought thousands of acres of land he plans to turn them into a hunting camp for all of his rich friends and possibly a housing community, he will use the Pomona park airport the fly in his friends and hunting guides as he does in Missouri with land there and Clinton airport. its hard to distinguish truth from rumor with NDAs Mr. Morris makes people sign; and the Palatka daily news being 100% silent and the admins of “what’s going in Palatka Florida” won’t approve petition posts. And refuses to give a reason why when I messaged them asking for permission first, just ignored. Either way he  plans to bulldoze thousands of acres of habitat for a gated community with a 500 acre lake or a hunting club and connect the 4 lakes on his property together. And this will destroy federally protected animal habitats. So not only will he take our aquifer water to fill his lake, the housing development will overload the area with septic tanks. He will kill turtles and gophers and anything else in the process of land clearing. He has also bought the CSX lodge on the river. Welaka and south Putnam don’t need anymore development. We need to save the forest and the aquifer and oppose this. He is rich enough to pay people off, and if he gets fined he can easily pay the fine. He did a similar thing in Oklahoma, and also owns a theme park. For all we know he could be opening a theme park in our little county. Anyone who works for him is forced to sign an NDA, (non disclosure agreement) so he definitely doesn’t want the locals to know what he’s up to. I have tried to post in local Facebook pages and they get deleted by admins, like “what’s going in Palatka Florida” they will not publish the info about what he’s doing. And there is far more going on than I know about. I’m hoping if we gather enough signatures, we can protect the forest and keep major developments like theme parks out of the county and gated communities for rich bass pro people with huge houses and large septic tanks OUT of south Putnam. There’s no long term jobs being brought here from him. Maybe some more economic tourism but we live in Florida and aren’t short on that. We are short on undeveloped land. I guess since Mr Morris didn’t find any other hunting clubs suitable and must build his own with his rules.
