Why this petition matters

Started by Andrew Johnson

In order to apply pressure on The University of Kentucky, your signature is needed to bring about change. Men’s basketball coach John Calipari is no longer the man for the job, and it is becoming more apparent with each passing year.

Since 2015, when the most talented team in the history of college basketball lost in the Final Four after an undefeated season, Coach Cal was inducted in the hall of fame, given a “lifetime” contract, and proceeded to severely underperform based on the level of talent he has brought to the team. His level of comfort with underperformance is and will always be justifiable because he is getting players drafted after 1 year, who leave behind no legacy of UK. It has become apparent that winning is no longer his priority, which is a problem for us, the fans, who dedicate our time and money supporting this program. Just ask those who travelled to Nashville for the SEC tournament and those who went to Pittsburgh to watch us lose to an inferior team with a head coach who makes $328K per year.

We have ONE (1) NCAA Tournament win since 2019, as John continues to collect his $8,540,000 annual salary, throw his players under the bus in postgame interviews, and allow recruiting promises to dominate his roster.
Mitch Barnhart is the responsible party for this abomination due to his poor judgement in providing an unrealistic contract and must be held accountable for what our beloved program has become.
When you sign this petition, you are sending a clear message to University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto stating that you will no longer support this program financially until the Athletic Director, Mitch Barnhart, and the Men’s Basketball Coach, John Calipari have been terminated.
This is the University of Kentucky, where we take pride in our sports, dedicate our time and money to our program, but most importantly, hold those responsible for failure accountable. The time for change is now.
