Why this petition matters

Started by Leeds United Supporters Network

We have issued this petition to request The FA to issue a posthumous apology to the family of Don Revie for the disgraceful manner in which they treated him after he resigned from the position of manager of England football team to take up another professional managerial appointment in the United Arab Emirates in 1977.

The Football Association under the leadership of Sir Harold Thompson did everything to discredit Mr Revie, they charged him with bringing the game into disrepute claiming he was in breach of contract, they also banned him from being employed in any capacity under the FA’s jurisdiction for a period of 10 years, but this was overturned by the High Court.

Mr Revie passed away in 1989, not before being subjected to some appalling baseless accusations of dishonesty. Although it is too late for the FA to apologise to him personally we are seeking for them to issue a sincere apology to his surviving family so that he can be remembered for the outstanding contribution he gave to professional football in the UK and overseas.

Throughout his career Mr Revie served his club and country with integrity and dignity, always putting the good of the game before his personal wellbeing. That he should be treated in such a disrespectful manner is not just an insult to him, but to the high standards of conduct The FA would claim to aspire to. If they truly value such ethics, they should not hesitate to issue a sincere apology to his family and ensure that any future references to Mr Revie are made in a very honourable and respectful manner.

This petition has been endorsed by Chris Evans MP  the author of '' Don Revie's biography' to promote the Campaign and by Don Revie's daughter. Please support the Campaign to get the FA to apologise to Don Revie's family for the appalling treatment he and they suffered at their hands.
