This is an SoS from Surulere Residents connected to LUTH 33KVA Injection SubStation. Over 100 streets are usually in Total Blackout at least 3 days in a Week due to the epileptic state of the Substation Under EKO Disco which Services Okoh 11kva, Ishaga 11 kva and Ogunlana 11kva. 

It’s been one sad tale too many for Electricity Consumers in these localities. Areas often affected include Randle, Ishaga, Ojuelegba Ogunlana, Tejuosho, and its environs all under the Constituency of the Hon Speaker Of the House Of Rep.Rt Hon.Femi Gbajabiamila (Who by the way is doing exceptionally well with Infrastructure Upgrade in the Constituency) and Hon.Desmond Elliot of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Lagos University Teaching Hospital substation in Surulere is also critical to a chain of medical labs and services and hospitals including the Randle General Hospital. Imagine the agony of residents and businesses in the area.Residents and businesses spend thousands of naira weekly buying fuel to power their generators, while most companies run at a loss and eventually fold up. The environmental and Noise Pollution from the generators is on another level and frankly dangerous. Some have been forced to relocate. The sad part is that EKO Disco is preoccupied fixing the same fault every week without  apparent plans to upgrade the LUTH 33Kva Substation which can barely supply power for 8 hours, while some areas enjoy 24 hours of power supply in the same Surulere.

LACK OF PREPAID METERS
Many residents in the Surulere area have been waiting in vain for Prepaid Meters and as such are pressured to pay inflated Estimated billings irrespective of the amount of power Supplied. This epileptic supply in the affected areas has lingered for over a  decade, and we’re saying we can’t take it anymore.

Our frustrations with EKEDP led to this petition, and here are our demands:

1.We want our Representative at the House Of Rep Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and Lawmaker Hon. Desmond Elliot of LSHA to hold an URGENT MEETING with officials of the EKO Electricity Distribution Company over the state of  LUTH SubStation.

2.We demand that the representatives of affected areas be briefed by the lawmakers about the result of that meeting. That is how Representatives communicate with the constituents in countries where things work.

3.We want the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to investigate why the LUTH substation is underperforming and Why the Lag in the Metering Process.

4.We Want to Know the State of the Proposed Randle substation which brought a glimmer of hope to Residents at Inception

5.We also demand for the Total Metering of the communities affected by the outrageous supply of power.

6.Replacement of failed 60 NVA transformer at Isolo Transmission Station

EKEDP should stop playing Disco with our lights and Livelihood.
