Why this petition matters

Started by Z L

Roku has chosen to relinquish non-certified channels from their devices. This means that Roku users who enjoy VidAngel's services to filter content they wish to keep hidden will have to go to other devices to support their needs.

Roku recently announced that on February 23, 2022, it will sunset all channels not available through its official store. This includes the current VidAngel channel. On that date, VidAngel and all other non-certified channels will be disabled across all Roku devices.

According to VidAngel, they "submitted the VidAngel channel for review multiple times over the years, including as recently as the fall of 2021. Each time, Roku has declined to approve our channel and provided little insight regarding that decision. That’s why users have had to manually install our app onto their Roku device rather than downloading it from the official store." (VidAngel FAQ)

VidAngel users have an interest in filtering content for various reasons, whether it be religious, personal sensibilities, hyper-sensitivity, or making content "clean" for certain viewers. VidAngel can mute curse words in the same manner as cable television and skip content, however the viewer so desires. It gives users freedom to choose what they will see and hear. As a parent, I appreciate the option to skip content that I don't necessarily want my children to be exposed to. I am not alone in this line of thinking and wish to convey to Roku just how important this matter is to myself and other VidAngel users. This service that VidAngel provides is so critical to our daily entertainment that if removed, we will no longer use Roku as our streaming device. Those signing this petition are requesting that Roku grant VidAngel's request to become an official channel.
