The College Board Should Create an AP U.S. Women's History Course
Why this petition matters
Women's political history is insufficiently covered in AP courses. For example, in AP U.S. Government & Politics all of the required foundational documents are written by men and there is no specific required information about women's political history in AP Comparative Government & Politics. In AP U.S. History there is little time to cover the significant political, economic and social contributions of important individuals such as Pauli Murray who is pictured on this petition. To address this, the College Board should create a stand alone AP U.S. Women's History course and advocate for students to earn college credit upon successful completion. Read the list of proposed course topics.
This petition was created by AP history teachers Kristen Kelly & Serene Williams who are working alongside a WAPUSH student advisory group of over twenty high school & college students. You can learn more about Ms. Kelly and Ms. Williams on their website.
