With this petition we ask that maritime manslaughter is implemented as a crime in Italy, immediately. Two men killed Umberto and Greta on the Lake Garda and have not been arrested or charged. They ran them over with a boat, killed them, and sped off. Maritime manslaughter is not a crime in Italy, unlike automobile manslaughter. Sign this petition to change that.

On the evening of June 19th, 2021 Greta and Umberto were enjoying the summer evening on a small boat in Lake Garda as many locals do. They never would have thought that a motorboat could literally pass over them. Umberto was killed instantly and Greta drowned, SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED instead the tourists left her to be found 100 meters deep the next day. Above all they never would have thought that the two tourists from Germany, Patrick Kassen and Christian Teismann, would NOT stop to help them, but instead they would go and have a beer immediately afterwards as if nothing had happened. It is hard for anyone to think that these men could leave Italy; because the nautical laws are so inadequate they were not arrested.

All this is inconceivable. It is not conceivable to see two families destroyed by grief and having to hope for justice. It should be automatic that whoever does such a thing pays, in justice. These men sped through the water at night ignoring the speed limits and killed two people… and then claimed that they didn’t notice anything. It is not possible, we do not believe it.

We want justice for Greta and Umberto, we ask that the laws are changed now and that the two guilty of their death are arrested and pay for what they did. The sacrifice of these two victims must have a sense. Don’t allow their families to cry uselessly, don’t allow more families to be destroyed. Umberto and Greta are all of us, all the people who love our lands, and now we weep over two young lives. We ask for justice.
