Why this petition matters

Started by Viewing TV

As a long-time resident of Vancouver, BC, I have grown up with the familiarity and comfort of local Seattle stations on my basic cable package. Since the 1960s/1970s, channels like KSTW have been integral parts of our television experience. However, recently Rogers/Shaw has decided to remove KSTW from their grandfathered Limited TV package in the lower mainland and Van Island areas.

This decision is not only disappointing but also unfair to loyal customers who have relied on these channels for decades. The move to place this channel into a theme pack is a significant mistake that disrupts our viewing habits and disregards our preferences as consumers.

KSTW along with other local Seattle stations such as KOMO, KING, KIRO, KCTS, KCPQ and KVOS have always been part of the Limited TV package (equivalent to basic cable), shaping our understanding of the world through news coverage and entertainment programming. Their removal from this package feels like an unnecessary change that doesn't serve customer interests.

We urge Rogers/Shaw to reconsider their decision and reinstate these channels back into their original packages where they belong. Let's preserve our access to quality television content without having it hidden behind additional paywalls or subscription tiers.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair access to long-standing television content for all residents in Vancouver BC's lower mainland/Van Island areas. Your signature can make a difference in preserving our right to view these beloved local Seattle stations on basic cable where they've always belonged.
