Problem
Rickey Cummings, 28 years old wrongfully convicted and is now sat on Texas Death Row for a crime he didn’t commit and will die at the hands of the state unless He gets a fair trial 


Solution
By gaining a fair retrial and Rickey regaining his freedom he would therefore be able to assist others who are at risk of offending or who have found themeselves in an unjust situation. Being on death row without sufficient evidence is not beneficial to either Rickey, his family nor the tax payer. I feel Rickey’s sentence should be reassessed and give Rickey a fair chance at life to help those in need.

Personal story
I came across Rickey’s profile where he was actively seeking pen pals, legal help and an understanding, nonjudgmental friendship. After being apprehensive of reaching out to Rickey given the stigma attached with Death Row, I felt he deserved a chance. I quickly learned that Rickey is a loving father, brother and a deeply missed son. After exchanging a few letters we got onto the subject of his court case and conviction. Being a non American I took an open minded approach and felt I should look up his trial,sentencing and conviction from as many non biased sources as I could. After doing my own research I soon discovered Rickey is an innocent man facing execution. Rickey is hoping to have his innocence brought to light.


Rickey has high hopes for when his innocence is found, to use his time to better himself, educate others and try his best to tackle street crime and others found in his situation. By setting up an organisation specifically for people slipping into crime!
