Why this petition matters

Started by Sarah Holdstock

As per today's article Hygiene and welfare issues were identified at South Lakes Safari Zoo in Cumbria

This place needs to be closed down, this has been an ongoing issue for years, animals are not being looked after properly at all.

They do not have enough space, water or food. Animals are left over night with no heating or bedding.

Information from a previous petition and since then years later the animals are still suffering:

During the period between December 2013 - September 2016 there have been 486 deaths of animals in the care of South Lakes Safari Zoo. They include the following:

2 Snow Leopards partially eaten

A Giraffe which upon post mortum was deemed to suffering from poor nutrition

A Jaguar had chewed off his/her paw

A Tortoise electrocuted

A Lemur killed after he/she got into the Wolf enclosure

7 healthy Lion cubs and 5 Baboons euthanised as there was no room to house them

All the above are a few of the instances. South Lakes Zoo also houses vulnerable and endangered species. Surely they cannot be responsible for the care of these animals due to the poor housing and lack of health care.

Please we have to stop this.
