I was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer after having a routine smear test, which I’d never missed.  I have had life saving surgery and required no further treatment.  However, this wouldn’t have been the outcome for me if I had to wait 3-5 years.  I and many other women have been extremely lucky by accepting our invites for a routine smear. My diagnosis on January 24th 2021 had floored me as I had no symptoms and thought I’d known my own body.  I had only had my smear a year prior as one 2 years before that had shown I had abnormal cells meaning I was monitored more closely.  For any woman to wait 5 years is u acceptable.  2 women die daily in Britain from Cervical Cancer and with the time scale rising this is going to increase.
