⭕️ NESTLÉ, A RESPONSIBLE CORPORATION? THE ANSWER IN OUR VIDEO REPORT TO WATCH NOW!

Let's take action to stop the suffering of Herta pigs and all animals exploited on behalf of Nestlé!

Schocking practices in a French farm of the Herta brand were made public at the end of 2020 by the association L214. Questioned by the Coalition for animal rights (COA) and Animae, two Swiss associations, Nestlé has still not acknowledged and denounced the abuse of pigs in the farm.

Yet Nestlé owned 100% of the Herta brand from 1986 to the end of 2019, i.e. for more than 30 years. This brand practices a form of intensive farming that is prohibited in Switzerland. Currently, Nestlé still has a 40% share in Herta.

We, the Coalition for animal rights (COA) and all signatories of this petition, ask you to:

1.  Acknowledge and publicly condemn proven mistreatment in the intensive livestock of pigs from Limoise (France), filmed and broadcast in 2020 by L214, and violating French regulations: systematic cutting of tails, untreated injured animals, lack of water for many animals, lack of manipulable materials to occupy the pigs, collapsing roof in one of the buildings, use of expired antibiotics, etc.

2. Acknowledge and publicly condemn abuse resulting from intensive breeding practices prohibited in Switzerland but allowed in France and observed at Herta: keeping sows in cramped cages, chain inseminations and births, impossibility for sows trapped between bars to help their offspring, devices leading to the crushing of piglets, slatted floors causing leg injuries to piglets, slamming and smashing of the skulls of weak or sickly piglets, etc.

3. Communicate to the Swiss population what you are doing with your new Spanish partner Casa Tarradelllas to fight against animal abuse observed in the intensive farm of Limoise and potentially in all farms of the Herta brand, for which you are "co-responsible", in France and around the world.

4. Urge your Spanish partner Casa Tarradellas to put a rapid end to intensive farming.

5. Explain to the Swiss public how your commitment to improve animal welfare on farms and your responsible sourcing standard will help the Herta brand’s pigs.

6. Present to the Swiss public what concrete steps you are taking today to reduce mistreatment and suffering of all animals exploited for your products, in Switzerland and around the world.

7. Implement an action plan for the above again this year so as not to lose the trust that our country and its inhabitants place in you, as well as the image of Switzerland that you convey abroad, which also impacts us.

8. Publicly support the swiss initiative « Abolishing factory farming in Switerzland », for Switzerland also allows breeding and raising practices that are totally unsuited to animals' basic needs.

9. Be consistent to the end in your process of developing plant-based and renouncing meat products.

In November 2020, a majority of the Swiss people voted in favour of the "Responsible Business" initiative for the environment and human rights. Unfortunately, a majority of cantons rejected it.  Nestlé strongly argued that the initiative should be rejected, stating:

"... that working together, rather than against each other, is better for everyone in Switzerland and in the other countries where we operate. We want to be on the ground, tackling the problems there, not arguing in court."

"...Of course, it can also happen that a supplier does not meet all the requirements, despite assurances to the contrary. This is why we carry out very intensive controls in the field." Ulf Mark Schneider, Nestlé CEO.

What about the animals used for your products?

WHERE WERE YOUR VERY INTENSIVE CONTROLS ON THE HERTA FARM IN LIMOISE?

The latest L214 survey from January 2021 shows that
THE SITUATION REMAINS DEPLORABLE FOR THE PIGS!

The COA contacted Nestlé twice about Herta. The first time we received a statement of good intentions but no answer to our questions, and the second time a promise of a response, then...NOTHING.

We want to be proud of our national brand, which represents Switzerland in the world!

Ethics is compatible with business, if business leaders are responsible and do not only aim for profit.

NESTLÉ, TIME IS RUNNING OUT! WE ARE WAITING FOR YOUR ANSWERS AND YOUR ACTION PLAN!

Who is the Coalition for animal rights (COA)?
The association was founded in French-speaking Switzerland in April 2019. It brings together organisations, activists and politicians with an antispeciesist and abolitionist approach, who wish to join forces to advance the animal cause with decision-makers. Its mission is to contribute to the gradual emergence of a Swiss society that is free from animal exploitation and that cohabits more ethically with sentient animals.
