5,000 years ago, Komodo dragons were native to the island of Australia and in fact originally evolved from there. The species is now only limited to a few small Indonesian islands and is threatened by extinction. Putting these animals back into their could not only help this species' wellbeing but also benefit the Australian ecosystem as a whole.

Feral Animals:

As of now, Australia is full of non-native/invasive animals roaming the mainland. Species such as cats, pigs, horses, foxes and more have heavily affected the native species causing great extinction and environmental damage. No native species in Australia is not big nor brave enough to predate on some of these invsive animals. However, the Komodo dragon is known to hunt swamp buffalo, deer and other ungulates on the island of Indonesia with it's strong bite, speed and ability to ambush. If the reintroduction of Komodo dragons were to happen then they would surely put these animals in check.

Balancing the Ecosystem:

Australia is in dire need of predators, the biggest predator "native" to it are dingoes and they were introduced by humans a long time ago but have since adapted. Years ago, the country used to have tons of megafauna roaming the land however they have all since gone extinct since the arrival of humans. Without large land predators, the two biggest species in Australia, the red kangaroos and the emu, have became way too abundant with zero predators when they reach adulthood. Only dingoes, perenties and wedge-tailed eagles have been known to prey on them but like said, this is before they reach full-maturity. Since then, emus and kangaroos have especially become a huge problem for farmers as they compete with livestock for food and water and also destroy fences and crops. This is why a big native land predator would be perfect to help regulate these widespread animals.

Conclusion:

With the many problems that Australia is now facing in it's ecosystem, whether its an overabundance of megafauna or invasive species, the country needs a large land predator thats also native to the land. And surprisingly one has still been around all this time its just been regionally extinct but I think we people can fix that.
