We call on York University to close the RBC On Campus. There is no room for a bank here that violates Indigenous sovereignty, funds colonial violence, and threatens everyone's future by pouring billions into fossil fuels.

RBC might hide behind greenwashing campaigns, but it remains the largest investor in fossil fuels in the entire country. By funding climate chaos, it is not only robbing students of our future, it is already hurting people today. Pakistan floods displaced 30 million last year, and crop failures left 18.4 million in the Somali Peninsula severely hungry. Will RBC pay reparations to the millions who lost their food, homes, or loved ones, or will they continue to externalize the costs of fossil fuel production on the Global South?

RBC is also one of the largest funders of the CGL (Coastal GasLink) pipeline which is to carry fracked LNG over unceded Wet'suwet'en land and across their sacred headwaters, the Wedzin Kwa river, without the free, prior, and informed consent of the Wet'suwet'en nation. Indigenous land defenders have resisted pipeline construction for years, calling on RBC to defund the project. But RBC has failed to act, even after Amnesty International and a UN committee urged CGL halt pipeline construction until free, prior, and informed consent was obtained. Meanwhile, Wet'suwet'en elders and land defenders continue to face daily harassment, surveillance, and intimidation, as well as heavily militarized raids by the RCMP on their own land.

We demand RBC be removed from York University's campus until it shows it is committed to respecting Indigenous nations and taking real climate action. There is no place for RBC here until it divests from the CGL pipeline, recognizes Indigenous sovereignty, and commits to stopping fossil fuel investments now.
