Designate Means Manor as a Local Historic District
Designate Means Manor as a Local Historic District
Why this petition matters
Anchored by the stately First Baptist Church, since its inception Means Manor has been lauded as a beautiful subdivision a "showplace of Gary, IN". It is known for its harmonious winding tree-lined streets, unique architecture, and rich history. However, the best thing about Means Manor is its residents and their strong commitment to family and community. These values have sustained the neighborhood from the beginning and continue to sustain it over these 60 years of its existence.
Throughout this period, the residents of Means Manor have tirelessly fought to maintain the quality and integrity of their community; we’re all able to enjoy this remarkable community today because of their efforts. In order to preserve this unique and vital legacy for future generations, designation of Means Manor as a local historic district is of vital importance. It is the strongest level of protection offered by the local government, as it protects the neighborhood from undesirable development, and protects its historical legacy by guarding against neglect and other deteriorating factors. Local historic designation is key to maintaining the integrity of this historic neighborhood at this critical time in its history.
