Why this petition matters

Started by Colleen Aycock

The city of Albuquerque through Family and Community Services has requested through HUD funding $7,559,662.12 for the purchase of The Sure Stay Hotel at 10330 Hotel Circle, NE.  at the corner of Eubank and Lomas for NO-INCOME/LOW-INCOME permanent residential housing in an entirely business district.

On October 2, 2022, a city spokesperson said, “The city plans to start with one property and SCALE-UP” and yet this spokesperson “could not provide additional DETAILS about the plan” thus keeping the public in the dark about the city’s plans and use of taxpayer money until after the fact.  The city has failed to provide a comprehensive plan that the public and businesses endorse (such as THE CAMPUS MODEL PLAN), thus violating the Hearth Act.  Using a business district instead of the Campus Model to house the homeless will negatively impact both the businesses and city as a whole. Existing and future business markets will be devastated.

We urge you to contact EVERY city councilor and the Mayor’s office to voice your strong opposition to the “Motel Conversion IDO amendment 0-22-10”.

Sign the petition and contact the members of the Albuquerque City Council and Mayor Tim Keller.

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE, PETITION THE MAYOR TIMOTHY KELLER AND THE ALBUQUERQUE CITY COUNCIL TO REPEAL AND RESCIND IDO AMENDMENT ZONING CHANGE (O-22-10) TO ALLOW MOTEL CONVERSIONS TO PERMANENT NO-INCOME/LOW-INCOME RESIDENTIAL  HOUSING EFFECTIVE 7/28/2022.  THESE CONVERSIONS WILL SIGNIFICANTLY, ADVERSELY AFFECT THE ECONOMIC BUSINESS/ TOURISM INDUSTRY.
