I am a visually impaired user who relies heavily on Google's basic HTML viewer to navigate my Gmail account. However, Google has announced that they will be discontinuing this essential feature from February 2024, this time the basic html view is not working, which is a significant setback for people like me.

The latest standard Gmail interface presents numerous challenges for visually impaired users. For instance, navigating through conversations with attachments is not straightforward and the conversation options are confusing when using a screen reader.

According to the World Health Organization, there are an estimated 285 million people worldwide who are visually impaired; of these, 39 million are blind and 246 have low vision. Many of us rely on accessible technology to perform daily tasks such as reading emails or browsing the internet.

By removing the basic HTML viewer from Gmail, Google is making its services less accessible instead of more inclusive - contrary to their mission statement "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." This decision disproportionately affects millions of visually impaired users around the globe who depend on this feature for seamless email communication.

We urge Google not only to reconsider their decision but also work towards making all their services more user-friendly for individuals with visual impairments or other disabilities.
