Why this petition matters

Started by Sarah Thatcher

Hundreds of students cross main roads at Huntsville High School and Huntsville Public School multiple times each day and there are no high visibility crosswalks or painted lines to warn motorists or to help slow down traffic.  Even with crossing guards, there is no visible painting on roads and flashing crosswalk lights to help ensure student and pedestrian safety.

As a concerned citizen of Huntsville and Mom of children who attend Huntsville Public School and Huntsville High School, I am seeking your help request that the Town of Huntsville (HPS) and the District of Muskoka (HHS) repaint the lines on the roads immediately.

I would implore the Town of Huntsville and the District of Muskoka to facilitate a full traffic survey with the help of the OPP to ensure that the best options for student and pedestrian safety is considered at both locations, including the possibility of high visibility lighting similar to the new pedestrian lights installed on Main Street.

With increased tourist traffic and ongoing construction around the schools, the safety of our students MUST be given more attention and I appreciate your help in solving these challenges in our school zones.
