Why this petition matters

Manitoba staff and students are being sent back to school on Monday January 17th. However, many people do not feel safe coming back to in person learning with the lack of enhanced safety measurements in school. Just last week the government actually TOOK AWAY contact tracing, a very important tool that helps keep students, staff, parents, and community members alike aware and safe.

We are demanding:

  • Access to and provision for N95s/KN95s across all Manitoba schools
  • Access to and provision for rapid antigen tests and kits across all Manitoba schools
  • Access to and provision for proper ventilation across all Manitoba schools
  • For contact tracing to be reinstated across all Manitoba schools
  • Access to and provision for hepa filters across all Manitoba schools
  • Access to and provision for corsi-rosenthal boxes across all Manitoba schools
  • Transparency as to where the $185 million given to the province to ensure school safety during COVID has gone- what it was used for, when it was used, etc
  • The government to LISTEN to staff and student concerns, feedback, input, and suggestions rather than dismiss them
  • The government MUST provide a widespread, accessible, and viable remote learning options for students across all schools in Manitoba  if they for whatever reason are unable to enhance safety in schools

The provincial government is responsible for education. You cannot tell staff and students to come back to school in the midst of thousands of cases and high hospitalization numbers without a plan to enhance safety in schools. When students are organizing walkouts it is time to listen, not ignore. We are asking that the government act responsibly and keep schools, staff, and students safe.
