Korean American history began in 1903, when the Korean peninsula was under Japanese invasion.

Koreans who lived in the United States when they were in danger of losing their homeland did not sit still. Together, they worked hard to find a way to save their country. The HungSaDahn Building was the home of the Korean American Independence Movement. 

In October of 2020, the Governor of California passed legislation recognizing ethnic studies as a high school graduation requirement beginning in the 2029-30 school year. We know how important it is not only to read about the subject, but also to visit a site where the history remains alive. 

It is our responsibility and duty to preserve our history for future generations.

Please support the Korean American community to keep the HungSaDahn Building for future generations as a historical site, preserving the space where Dosan Ahn Chang-ho led the Korean Independence Movement and educated young leaders who took root in the United States.

Designating the HungSaDahn Building as a historic-cultural monument would allow for the city of LA to acknowledge the connection between Korean and American history.

미국 한인의 역사는 1903년, 대한민국이 일제 침략이 있을 때 시작됐습니다.

조국을 잃을 위기에 있을 때 미국 땅에 거주했던 한국인들은 가만히 손 놓고 있지 않았습니다. 그들은 서로 힘을 모아 조국을 살릴 수 있는 방법을 찾아 열심히 뛰고 노력했습니다. 그 때, 미국에 거주했던 한국인들의 독립 운동 증거가 바로 흥사단 단소입니다.

2020년 10월, 캘리포니아 주지사는 2029-30학년도부터 인종학 과목을 고등학교 졸업을 위한 필수 과목으로 인정하는 법안을 통과시켰습니다. 교과 내용을 교과서에서 뿐 아니라 역사가 살아있는 현장에 방문하는 것이 얼마나 중요한지를 압니다. 

미래 세대들을 위한 역사 보존이 현재를 살고 있는 우리의 책임이고 의무입니다.

도산 안창호 선생이 미국 땅에서 대한민국의 독립운동을 이끌고, 미국에 뿌리를 내린 청년 지도자를 교육한 공간이었던 흥사단 단소를 다음 세대들에게 미국 한인 역사 사적지로 남길수 있도록 힘을 모아 주십시요.

흥사단 단소를 사적지으로 지정하는 것은 LA City가 미국 역사와 한국의 역사가 연결되어 있음을 인정하는 선택이 될 것 입니다.
