Why this petition matters

Started by andrew hawes

I run a not for profit organisation called catmans, where we run the cats Trust and cats and wildlife support via Facebook,  helping lost and found pets, injured animals and investigating cases of animal welfare issues in the hope to provide assistance to other organisations.

The problem at the moment is we are so stretched at the moment and limited to what we can get involved, I know we have a local animal welfare officer employed via Durham constabulary and feel this needs expanded as we are seeing more cases of abuse related to coursing, baiting and dog fighting.

The numbers of cats being killed by people with dogs setting their animal onto them as raised astronomically from previous years, yet to find successful convictions is near zero.  We need better policing and more animal welfare to change this.  I feel education is our main weapon, teach kids the importance of being a caring guardian to all our animals will make society a better place to live and lesson the rates of animal cruelty alot.

Please sign this petition so we can get this spoken about in government and look to bring more animal welfare officers to our streets and also expand on the new animal welfare act and suitable punishments, which I feel should be 5 years minimum in prison.

I have many ideas and if you join my catmans journeys I will go into more detail on there.
