Why this petition matters

Started by UNICEF Zimbabwe

One woman out of three in Zimbabwe aged 20 to 49 was married before the age of 18. And 5% of girls are married before the age of 15.  Child marriage is one of the most widespread forms of violence against children.

Because girls have the right to develop their potential, women should be empowered and child marriages in Zimbabwe should stop, sign our UNICEF Zimbabwe pledge to:

  1. Promote widely in my community the knowledge of the Zimbabwe Child Marriage Law confirming marriage before the age of 18 is illegal in our country.
  2. Support girls in my community to fulfill their full potential and to make their own choices in life.
  3. Engage in my community in positive discussions about the empowerment of women.
  4. Inspire leaders in my community to support a positive attitude to the development of girls
  5. Be a role model in my community for girls to realize their dreams and ambitions in life
