Essential Workers Deserve Pay
Essential Workers Deserve Pay
Why this petition matters
On September 28, 2021, Sacramento County canceled meetings again with both the 005 and 008 UPE Negotiations Teams. These meetings were to discuss UPE’s proposals for spending American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds on pay for essential workers. This is now the second time the County has canceled meetings with UPE.
At the same time, the Board of Supervisors approved new CEO Ann Edwards to authorize an additional $550,000 for private consulting firm Deloitte and Touche, LLP. All total, the County has now authorized up to $1,165,000 of the ARPA funds towards a private consulting company to advise them on how to spend ARPA funds. All the while, our members, who have been deemed as essential workers throughout this pandemic, have received nothing but a thank you from the County Executive.
The County has yet to recognize workers’ efforts in any way! The County’s priorities are out of line! The ARPA makes clear that funds may be spent on premium pay for essential workers. UPE proposed “VIP pay” to the County, which is fair and reasonable monetary compensation for our UPE members who continue to work every single day to keep the County running during this critical and unprecedented time.
Sign this petition demanding County Executive Ann Edwards and the Board of Supervisors show their appreciation to all UPE members who are deemed essential workers by providing them with VIP PAY!
