Metro's new Via system is a mix of an Uber and Call-a-Ride system all in one.  Like an Uber, you call it with an app on your phone, and it's open to everybody.  Unlike a taxicab or Uber, Via has a fixed fare of no more than $5.00.  Like an Uber, you can pay with a credit card or a Monthly transit pass.   

However, there are some areas where there are no safe transfers to and from a MetroBus. route or Call-a-Ride.  You have to walk to an area where there could be speeding cars and that is very dangerous.  These days, there are motorists that drive stupidly.  So why on earth should we go and put a passenger's life in danger just to catch a ride?   Dangerous moves like that can cause a great big drop in ridership.  Taxpayers are also watching and if there would be an upcoming tax increase request, the voters could easily say "NO" because of unsafe moves.  If we want more people to ride Metro, then we must do a better job in making it safer to change from a MetroBus or Call-a-Ride vehicle to a Via van.
