Why this petition matters

Kilkenny County Council plans to implement its 'Inistioge Traffic Management and Village Enhancement' Scheme in our beautiful village. This will result in a large area of the village being paved which what the Council describes with 'old world' paving but what is in actual fact modern 'fake granite.'  A similar approach has been taken in Thomastown to dreadful effect with the extent of paving in Logan St in particular excessive in the extreme.

In addition, there are plans for pedestrian crossings in Inistioge which, we believe, are more likely to cause accidents than prevent them. The paving planned for the front of the Church will greatly reduce the potential for passing traffic to stop, thus cutting passing trade to our shop. Furthermore, the modernisation of the streetscape will eliminate the possibility of the village ever being used again as a film location, according to no less an authority than Noel Pearson, Ireland's foremost film producer.

This paving pandemic started in Kilkenny City, spread to neighbouring towns and is now set to be unleashed in our village. We, call on Kilkenny County Council not to proceed with the above plan which we believe will be to the detriment of our beautiful heritage village and negatively impact its unique character. The modernisation measures being proposed are inappropriate, excessive and unnecessary.

We further call on Kilkenny County Council, instead, to prioritise projects that require more urgent investment, most notably the prevention of raw sewage entering the Nore at Inistioge.
