Save Free TV! Tell the FCC to END DRM Encryption of ATSC 3.0 Broadcasts
Why this petition matters
Cord cutters rejoiced when broadcasters began adopting the new ATSC 3.0 standard. ATSC 3 is already delivering better quality broadcasts even in areas that struggled to get a good signal before. It's capable of delivering 4k video down the road.
But the standard also brings the capability of encrypting the signals, making it impossible for consumers to tune in even if they are in range of the tower. And unfortunately more and more broadcasters are adding this encryption just as they are pressuring Congress and the FCC to allow them to fully transition to this standard.
While it's likely that TVs will support this decryption, broadcasters can revoke any television brand's license at any time. And worse the encrypted content cannot be recorded or used in a DVR application of the customer's choosing.
We need to act to stop the mass encryption of free over the air TV. We the people granted broadcasters the right to use our public airwaves for the public good and those broadcasts should remain free and open.
When you sign the petition PLEASE DO NOT DONATE MONEY.. First I don't need any financial assistance with this but also the funds you donate go to Change.org - not me.
