Why this petition matters

An A.I. doesn’t work unless it has a dataset! So how about talking to the people whose work has been stolen to build the dataset!

The White House is already meeting with leaders of some of the top A.I. companies on the responsibility of developing safe and trustworthy A.I., but there is one VERY IMPORTANT component on the subject around generative A.I. that is being left out of the conversation entirely - the artists and creators whose intellectual property (IP) are propping up this entire new industry.  It is a fundamental misunderstanding to think that these technologies are “just like artists” in any way shape or form.  Human artists are the true creative core at the heart of generative Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and they MUST be allowed to weigh in on the matter.

Generative A.I. has been trained on billions of images and copyrighted works which were collected from across the web, without the knowledge of or consent from their creators.  Data from these images and copyrighted works is what powers generative A.I.  Generative A.I. is then used to replace the human creators of the images and copyrighted works.

If President Biden and Vice President Harris want to have as thorough of a perspective on this subject as possible, the creatives whose work product fuels this rapidly advancing technology are a very important component of the process that SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN.  Additionally, the inclusion of experts who do not have a vested financial interest in the A.I. companies, but who are knowledgeable in the field of generative A.I. and machine learning (A.I./M.L.) should also be included in these discussions.

Since they are at the heart of what is helping this new technology flourish; human artists & creatives must also have a chance to present their part of the conversation on this important subject as it has a direct impact on them and their livelihoods.

Please sign this petition and SHARE it as FAR AND WIDE as possible to help those whose work product is being used to displace them get to the White House so they can weigh in.

Thank you for your support!
