Why this petition matters

Started by Cardinal Glen of Sterling HOA

We need your help! In July 2021, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors released a proposal to modify the fully functional traffic light at the intersection of Cardinal Glen Circle/Sterling Blvd and Route 7. This traffic light is the only way into/out of the neighborhood and serves not only residents, but emergency vehicles, school buses, service vehicles and over 600 members of the Baha'i Faith Center.

The proposal removes the Cardinal Glen side of the traffic light, which is currently triggered only when a vehicle is present. The proposal leaves vehicles with a “right turn in, right turn out” only entry/exit from the neighborhood, without the protection of a light. Vehicles exiting the neighborhood will be forced to make an aggressive right turn, navigating non-stop traffic on route 7. Drivers leaving the neighborhood that need to go eastbound on route 7 would need to quickly merge to the leftmost lane and make a U-turn at Potomac View. The Potomac View intersection is already overloaded and known for its high number of accidents. Additionally, without a signal functioning with a left turn into Cardinal Glen, drivers will be forced to U-turn at Augusta Drive when traveling from the west. There are many vehicles that utilize the Cardinal Glen signal to U-turn. All of these additional cars will be forced to U-turn at Augusta Drive. This will affect all traffic on Route 7 in Sterling, potentially causing additional accidents on an already overpopulated road.

We overwhelmingly reject the proposal citing concerns about safety, emergency personnel access, and dropping home values due to unsafe/inconvenient access. The light at Cardinal Glen Circle and Route 7 should remain, allowing vehicles safe entry and exit in all directions.

Cardinal Glen of Sterling HOA asks for your support in opposing the Board of Supervisor’s proposal and asking for this decision to be reconsidered immediately. Please sign this petition to show your support for a fully functioning traffic light at Cardinal Glen and Route 7. This light provides safe and convenient access to Route 7 in both directions.  Let your voice be heard - do not allow the Board of Supervisors to remove the light at Cardinal Glen and create a dangerous precedent along the Sterling corridor of route 7!
