Demanding Accurate Representations of Kinksters in Film and Television
Demanding Accurate Representations of Kinksters in Film and Television
Why this petition matters
We, the undersigned, are calling on broadcasters, directors, producers, and writers to make efforts to address the inaccurate and uninformed portrayals of kinksters (BDSM, leather, and fetish) in film and television.
Despite recent estimates showing that kinksters make up around 14% of the population, we are still misrepresented and misunderstood in mainstream media. The lack of accurate representation perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misconceptions about our community, leading to discrimination, stigma, and even violence.
We demand more honest and respectful portrayals of kinksters in film and television that accurately reflect our diversity, complexity, and humanity. We want to see kinksters portrayed as consenting adults who engage in consensual activities with full awareness and respect for each other's boundaries and identities. We want to see kinksters portrayed as individuals with unique personalities, experiences, and perspectives, not just as caricatures or props.
We recognize that kink is still a taboo topic for many people, but we believe that it's time for media creators to take responsibility for their influence on public perceptions and attitudes. We urge broadcasters, directors, producers, and writers to consult with kinksters and kink-positive organizations to ensure that their representations are accurate, respectful, and empowering.
We ask that you join us in demanding accurate representations of kinksters in film and television. Sign this petition to show your support and help us make a change for the better. #tOuchKink
