Why this petition matters

Started by Jane Sjoberg

The mechanical bull created from scrap metal was the star of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. It’s now in Centenary Square and is drawing lots of attention. The creators have said it’ll be dismantled at the end of the games. Save the bull! It’s a great symbolic representation of Birmingham and will be a photographable icon for the city! Surely we can find somewhere to locate it? Maybe put it in a less visited place and design a trail to get there? Plaques could be written to explain the meaning behind its creation and it will have an educational value by highlighting the message of harmony and recognition of the hurt of the industrial past that was communicated so well in the opening ceremony. Losing the bull from the Brummie landscape will be a loss for locals and visitors alike. Let’s keep this marvellous mechanical reminder of the games and,  ultimately, of Birmingham’s heritage and history. Save the Bull! Help put Birmingham back on the map!
