Why this petition matters

We are a neighborhood initiative from the Hickory Hills, Kenilworth Estates, Barbashela Drive, Sheppard Road, and Pine Lake communities. The character of our neighborhoods is defined by the natural beauty that surrounds us. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS IN DANGER. We need your help!

Be a part of the initiative to protect 40 acres of old forest in your backyard as a Nature Preserve.

A high-density development is proposed to be built at 4994 Rockbridge Road, between Sheppard Rd and N Hairston Rd, and between Kenilworth Drive and Rockbridge Rd (see attached map).

This means:

  • The clear-cutting of 40 acres of original forest, the definite loss of wildlife and animals, old trees, and natural waterways including a stream and pond.
  • The construction of 124 houses completely inconsistent with our neighborhood.
  • Increased traffic density on Rockbridge Rd/ N Hairston Rd.
  • Increased stormwater runoff and potential flooding.
  • Increased noise, water, and air pollution

This means DECREASED QUALITY OF LIFE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

It can be prevented by creating a Nature Preserve. Possible? YES!

We are supported by the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs of Dekalb County and Organizations aimed at Environmental Protection including the South River Watershed Alliance and others. An appointment with Dekalb Commissioner Steve Bradshaw is scheduled.

Although individual efforts have been taken to negotiate with the developer, clear-cutting the forest would be inevitable if his proposal is approved and if we don’t act now.

Please get involved, please sign and share our petition!
We do have a voice if we unite the neighborhoods and present a Strong Petition to the Dekalb County Commissioners to preserve this forest according to the 2021 DeKalb Parks Master Plan and the 2000 DeKalb Greenspace Program.
