Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool has concluded with Loreen snatching the win for an epic second time bringing the competition to Sweden in 2024! Sweden is no stranger to hosting Eurovision, having hosted it a total of 7 times since our debut in 1958 and a total of 3 times hosting in the new millennium. The Swedish track record is of excellence and given the most recent Eurovision of 2016 we know that SVT really knows how to put on a show - and Eurovision 2024 is no exception now that Sweden is pulling up to be a front runner of countries that have the most Eurovision wins ever.

What does one think of when they think of Sweden? Meatballs? IKEA? What about our exquisite nature and ocean views? What if you asked people to name a city in Sweden - most people will say Stockholm as the only city they know of. They say Stockholm is in the bag to host Eurovision next year. But there are other amazing cities with the right attitude and criteria to host. Malmö had the pleasure to host in 2013 after Loreen's first win and get put on the map but essentially sharing profits and glory with neighbours Copenhagen. But people have been overlooking and dismissing the charming city of Gothenburg who hasn't had the opportunity to host Eurovision since 1985.

So why Gothenburg? It's Sweden's SECOND LARGEST CITY, a population of approximately 590,000 people situated on the west coast of Sweden, it is a vibrant city with a town vibe. It's known for having forests and coasts only a short distance away while in the city we have an abundance of lovely bars and restaurants - don't forget the abundance of breweries that produce some of the best craft beer in all of Sweden. A humble city that is walkable, cyclable or tram-able. It is a city that is overlooked by many but not the many international expats who come from all over the world to work at our Volvo headquarters or Astra-Zeneca campus, or come to study at the prestigious Chalmers University.

Eurovision should be hosted in a city that can sustain the concert and the attendees itself but also the thousands of visitors who flock to the host city to meet other Eurovision fans and partake in the many Eurovision parties and events that happen within the weeks leading up to the big week. Visitors should also be able to enjoy what the city has to offer outside of the festivities. It's time to bring the contest back to Gothenburg! Put us on the map and let's show the entire world our beautiful city!

There are a few objectives to this petition.

1.  Make it known to SVT and the EBU the interest the world has to see the competition being hosted in Gothenburg.
2.  Put pressure on the Gothenburg city council to explore solutions to make a thorough and agreeable bid – Scandinavium would likely to be the venue of choice but it does not come without challenges.
3. Kick into gear the actions needed to make the investment and planning that is needed for the Gothenburg venue of choice.
