Why this petition matters

Started by Battery Mill

Hello, everyone! My name is BatteryMill, lifelong Eek! fan and administrator of the No Context Eek! Twitter account. I have started this petition on behalf of Eek! enthusiasts everywhere. If you're a fan of this show or interested in media preservation, help us out with this campaign to get the show back onto our screens and living on!

Eek! The Cat is an animated series created by Bill Kopp and Savage Steve Holland which originally aired on Fox Kids from 1992 to 1997. The show follows Eek, a purple cat who is always eager to help others (as he says, "it never hurts to help!"), but is often diverted a splattering of sticky slapstick situations. Starring alongside Eek are Annabelle, his girlfriend; her pet Sharky the vicious sharkdog; Elmo the Elk, who's always onto new pursuits to support his sick brother Timmy. There's also Eek's family including Mom, Wendy, and J.B. who always engage in interesting hijinks. This show expanded upon its format, and sister cartoons The Terrible Thunderlizards and Klutter (both bundled into this petition) eventually joined to form a package show (now titled Eek! Stravaganza).

The show has not been broadcast in the United States since 1999, a time when it was part of the ill-fated Fox Family Channel. Following Disney's acquisition of the Fox kids/family division, Eek! and several other series (Power Rangers, Life with Louie etc.) would call the famed studio's library home. Strangely, Eek! has received little attention from the company since, with no new content being made since the 2001 buyout. Compounding on matters, the show has not even aired anywhere worldwide since the dissolution of the Jetix brand in 2011. VHS/DVD releases have also been hard to come by, as comprehensive releases were destined only for select European markets.

Disney: we would love to see Eek! The Cat included in your Disney+ streaming service. This show was easily one of Fox's strongest on its Fox Kids block, with an amazing assortment of guest stars (from William Shatner, to Mr. T and "Weird Al"), many musical treats (the singalong "Quadrapedia" and "The Sound of MusEek"), inspiring movie parodies (ranging from "Eekpocalypse Now!" to "Pup Fiction"), as well as dozens of other outstanding episodes any cartoon fan can enjoy. Those who grew up with Eek!, as well as new audiences, could all confide in the show if it becomes available on Disney+ in its many territories of service. This could also spark new opportunities for the franchise as well. If a D+ spot proves unviable, we would like for you to explore alternatives for the IP, such as releasing DVDs or offering it to a reliable new owner.

All these reasons and more are why we would like for this show to be confirmed for the service. In addition to signing, you may also support the campaign by requesting it on Disney+'s website, posting to them on social media, and telling your friends about this petition as well as the show itself. With this petition, we will be here to show that we want Eek! on streaming and will be watching when it comes to fruition. Best wishes and thanks to all your help thus far!
