Why this petition matters

Started by Justice for Iran

Bahram* arrived in the UK on May 14th, 2022, after an arduous journey on a small boat. He was a police commander in Iran who, when told to use lethal force against peaceful protestors, refused to follow orders out of conscience. He is being forced to leave the UK and is set to be flown out to Rwanda in a week.

After November 2019 when thousands of Iranian citizens were killed, injured, and detained and tortured, Bahram was arrested and charged with 5 years imprisonment for disobeying orders to shoot. Many lives were saved due to Bahram’s unrelenting bravery and courage. While under arrest, Bahram was subjected to severe torture, and now suffers from a serious heart condition as a result. He needs consistent high-quality care.

In November 2021, after having fled to Turkey and leaving his family behind, Bahram testified before the Iran Atrocities (Aban) Tribunal. He revealed information about the orders given to police and security forces which put the responsibility for the deaths and injuries in the hands of the highest-ranking officials, including supreme leader Khamenei and president Raeisi.

His testimony shook the Iranian government and pressure on his family to reveal his location increased - Turkey was no longer safe and he fled to the UK.

If Bahram is returned to Iran, he faces persecution, further torture, and even death, which puts him at high risk. His safety must be prioritised.

However, on May 31st, Bahram received news that he was to be transferred to Rwanda on June 14th, where Iranian authorities are able to kidnap and return him. This is an unjust and dangerous decision that needs to be overturned immediately.

Please help us stop Home Office from putting a victim of torture in even graver danger and keep him safe in the UK.

*Bahram’s real identity is hidden in order to protect the safety and security of his family in Iran.
