Why this petition matters

Started by Jeremy Cassidy

Hundreds of people use Seven sisters station every day. And thousands of people use it to go to Tottenham Hotspur stadium for various events. However, the plain fact is the whole area is broken. The bike racks are broken. Bikes are abandoned. Fencing is broken. The bus stop has broken windows and grafitti scrawled over it. The bins are overflowing. There are still barriers up from the pandemic. The paint is peeling from the ceiling inside the ticket hall.
Then there are the security concerns, like muggings, and people's phones being stolen.  There are few police or cameras that can be seen. It is a forgotten place.

This is a gateway to our neighbourhood and wider Tottenham. It should be a place we're proud of.

I use the Seven Sisters station entrance on Seven Sisters Road regularly, for work but also with my family to go out and about in London and beyond.
We don't have a car, so I rely on public transport to get around. And I feel it's safer and cleaner than driving. I also invite friends to come and stay and direct them from the station as well.
I do not feel comfortable using this area, and I feel ashamed when friends and family visit.

It's a total mess.

I am a member of my local residents association, the Fountain Area RA and they are fully supportive of this campaign.

I appreciate there is very little money available at the moment.
However, there are some relatively cheap things that can be done that could massively improve the area.

We are asking for:

  • Jet clean all the floors and walls inside and outside
  • Use the abandonded billboards for locally commisioned murals or art.
  • Have the police or transport police create a plan to make the area safer.
  • Cleaning & painting (or removing!) the porta-cabin
  • The large metal cycle storage unit basically is broken.
  • Removing the top section - where cycle stand racks no longer move and are stuck - will be quick and easy to do.
  • Remove any abandoned bikes
  • Remove grafitti from bus shelter and fix broken glass
  • Clean and repair the phone box under the bridge.
  • Remove the COVID barriers
  • The high wooden fence outside on the pavement needs repairing. This could be moved further back to create flower beds and a greater sense of space.
  • Bins on the street need to be more frequently emptied.

We are calling on TFL and Haringey Council to step up and make this area safe and pleasant for its residents and visitors.

Please support this petition if you would also like to see the area sorted out!
