Why this petition matters

My name is Qazi Marzia Babakarkhail. I was a judge in Afghanistan before I was forced to flee after two assassination attempts by the Taliban. Now living in the UK, I am deeply concerned for the safety of women who, like me, worked in the justice system in Afghanistan. These brave women sent Taliban, terrorists and criminals to prison but now that the Taliban have assumed control of Afghanistan and released all prisoners, women who once delivered justice are now being hunted by these brutal men committed to revenge. In hiding in Afghanistan, they live with daily death threats and in constant fear of violent reprisals. They and their children, their families are at imminent risk of violent attacks.

They have nothing left, they have no income, they have no safety, no security, no support - they only have fear, waiting for that inevitable dangerous knock on the door.

These women - who stood for the rule of law and for a more just, inclusive and equal Afghanistan are now at imminent risk of violence and so I call upon the UK government and the international community to do everything within its power to immediately help evacuate and resettle female judges and their families from Afghanistan by providing emergency visas urgently.

Please join us in our struggle to save the lives of these women.

Show your solidarity by signing this petition.

With gratitude and humility I ask you for your action not sympathy.
