Keep Alive Hospice NOT FOR PROFIT! Behind closed doors, without any public input and without soliciting the advice of its founders, its Advisory Committee, donors, volunteers, staff or the referring medical community, Alive Hospice’s Board and CEO are secretly and actively engaging in the sale of this community’s beloved not-for-profit hospice to a for-profit company.

This Sale is not in patients' best interest. 

• "Care Experiences Are Worse in For-Profit Hospices Than in Non-For-Profit Hospices” based upon surveys from 3,100 hospices nationally. Rand Corporation, February 2023.
• “How Hospice Became a For-Profit Hustle: It began as a visionary notion that patients could die with dignity at home. Now it’s a $22 billion industry plagued by exploitation.”  The New Yorker, Nov., 2022.

This Sale Hurts our Community.

• Choice Rationing. If this sale is completed, Middle Tennessee will lose the only hospice in the region with two home-like residences, where patients receive around-the-clock care and respite can be provided to their caregivers. Patients will be forced to go to for-profit providers if they want hospice care in Middle Tennessee.
• Care Rationing. Average care time per patient goes down with for-profit providers who are beholden to shareholder earnings reports. 'Hospices have become big business for private equity firms, raising concerns about end-of-life care.' Fortune, July 27, 2022.
• For-Profit Hospices Cherry-Pick Less Acute Patients. “Association of Profit Status and Diagnosis with Hospice Status,”  NIH, National Laboratory of Medicine (2011).

This Sale Hurts the underserved.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the songwriting community, Alive is the only hospice in our region that serves patients without regard to their ability to pay.

The specific intent and interest of Alive's donors is being thwarted by selling out to a For-Profit.

Alive is the third oldest hospice in the country. It was founded in 1975 and has served this community faithfully for 50 years with one mission and one mission only, to deliver excellent clinical care, hand in hand with the emotional and spiritual support needed for patients and families to navigate the end of a life. 

Help us and the dedicated Alive Hospice staff continue to serve the dying and their families with tenderness, skill and reverence.
