Why this petition matters

On Thursday the 11th November 2021, we as a community lost a three-year-old child to a fatal accident, at the zebra crossings on Reddings Lane in Tyseley Birmingham due to a car not stopping at the crossings.

We have requested all the schools to get a lollipop person as soon as possible at the crossings, but unfortunately, the schools are not getting anywhere with the Birmingham city council. It’s now been six days since the fatal accident, and no immediate safety actions have been taken by the council.

We as a community need to protect the safety of our children and parents when approaching these crossings to get to the schools. And without a lollipop person, the cars are failing to stop on time for the children to cross, hence why we have lost a young child. The petition is for the zebra crossings on Reddings lane to be converted into a PELICAN / PUFFIN crossing. So our children can cross the main road safely, by making the cars stop so they can cross safely. Which is much safer than zebra crossings especially when there is no lollipop person to control and stop the cars.

So as a local community member I urge and request every resident within the area and further afield to sign this petition.
