Google announced last week that due to their partnership with ADT, as of April 8th 2024, they are going to not only end support for Nest Secure security systems, they will completely remove them from the Nest App, and brick (remotely make inoperable) the physical units. This system was launched in 2017, to much fanfare, and many people have spent thousands of dollars on additional sensors for their systems.

All the while, while promoting the Google Home App, they continued to say they were moving all devices from the Nest App to the Google Home App. They did an additional production run for Nest Detect sensors in 2021 which sold out, knowing they were going to render the devices inoperable in less than 3 years. This goes directly against their mantra of "Do No Evil", as they are essentially destroying perfectly good devices and failing to refund owners. (They're offering a $200 Google Store credit or an intro ADT system, but only to people in the US. International users are getting nothing.) This honestly appears to be a Quid Pro Quo, with Google holding ~6.6% stake in ADT, trading their security system customers to ADT for ADT prioritizing selling their cameras and other devices.

I've decided to start this petition as comments on the Nest community board are blowing up (984 lengthy user comments so far with not a single reply from Google), yet Google has yet to say anything. We need to hold companies accountable that are putting their interests above their customers, and flooding the world with e-waste unnecessarily.
