Request Honourable Prime Minister & Immigration Minister of Canada to Restore Startup Visa
Why this petition matters
Dear Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Immigration Marc Miller,
We, the undersigned, urge you to reconsider the recent decision to reduce the annual intake targets for the Start-up Visa (SUV) program from 6,000 to 2,000 for 2025 and further reducing to 1000 in 2026 & 2027. As aspiring entrepreneurs who have invested significant resources to pursue our dreams in Canada, this sudden reduction is a devastating blow. It not only affects our individual futures but also hampers Canada's ability to attract and retain innovative minds that contribute to the country's economic growth.
Many of us have spent thousands of dollars on the application process, including exorbitant fees to Designated Organizations, and dedicated years of effort to building businesses that align with Canada's vision for innovation and economic development. We are not seeking a handout—we are committed entrepreneurs who bring much more than a request for permanent residency. We bring:
Innovation: Our businesses contribute new ideas and cutting-edge technologies that enhance Canada’s global competitiveness.
Job Creation: We create employment opportunities, not only for ourselves but for Canadians as well, helping to strengthen the local economy.
Knowledge Transfer: We share expertise and best practices from around the world, enriching Canada's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Furthermore, the backlog for the Start-up Visa program is already significant, and reducing the intake target only worsens the problem. At the very least, we request that the government maintain the previously announced target of 6,000 for 2025 and 2026, as a compromise that allows for more entrepreneurial talent to be welcomed into the country.
We understand that the immigration system has to balance many priorities, but this program directly supports Canada's economic future. It helps create a thriving, innovation-driven economy where new ideas and opportunities can flourish. By keeping the target at 6,000, you will help secure Canada's position as a global leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Please hear our voices and reconsider this decision. Our contributions to Canada will be far-reaching, and we ask for your support to allow us the opportunity to make that impact.
Sign this petition if you believe in supporting entrepreneurial innovation and growth in Canada!
