Why this petition matters

Started by Harrie Kaye

Discrimination against children with special educational needs (SEN) in mainstream schools is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. These children are often excluded from activities, bullied by their peers, and denied the support they need to succeed academically.

Research shows that SEN children are more likely to be excluded from school than their peers without disabilities. This not only affects their academic progress but also has long-term consequences for their mental health and well-being.

It is time for mainstream schools to take responsibility for providing an inclusive environment where all children can thrive. This includes providing appropriate support for SEN students, training staff on how to work with these students effectively, and implementing anti-bullying policies that protect all students.

We call on the government and education authorities to take action against discrimination towards SEN children in mainstream schools. We demand that they provide adequate resources and support systems so that these students can receive the education they deserve without fear of discrimination or exclusion.

Together we can make a difference and ensure that every child has access to an inclusive education system where they can reach their full potential regardless of any disabilities or differences they may have.

My son is only 4 years old, due to turn 5 next month, he has been massively letdown by the education system. I have been forced to sign contracts agreeing to a reduced timetable out of fear he may face exclusion.

His current school claim they are unable to meet the requirements of his ehcp due to them being "teachers not therapists"

They claim they're unable to provide a "safe space" for when they can see hes headed for a meltdown. They claim they don't have the staff to provide 1-1 support he needs and have even resorted to having their cleaner sat with him.

This needs to stop as I know it isn't just my sons school who are struggling with SEN children due to a culmination of lack of training/funding and also in ways due to their ignorance towards those with additional needs and how best to support them.

The education system needs a huge overhaul to match up with modern times, we are supposed to be compassionate and inclusive yet schools want to pass the buck the moment a child isn't going to fit neatly inside their box.

Please sign and share this petition I want schools and the government to be held accountable for failing our children. Thank you
